1.4 km • Easy/Moderate • Mountain Biking & Hiking
This multi-use trail is one of Nipigon’s newer additions, built with sustainability and long-term trail health in mind. The concept began in 2011 when Parks Canada (Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area) partnered with the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) to host a Trail Care Crew School in Nipigon. During the workshop, the first 100 metres of sustainable trail were created—showcasing IMBA’s principles of thoughtful, environmentally responsible trail design.
From there, the Singletrack Society of Thunder Bay (SSTA) continued development, extending the route into the 1.4 km trail enjoyed today. Designed for both mountain biking and hiking, this trail offers a smooth flow, natural features, and a great introduction to sustainable trail building in our region.
Whether you're looking for a short ride, an easy hike, or a glimpse into modern trail-building techniques, the IMBA Trail is a fun and accessible option for all skill levels.
