NOTICE TO LOT OWNERS AND THE PUBLIC

The Corporation of the Township of Nipigon, the Cemetery Operator and Owner of Cliff-side Cemetery remind the public that all monuments, markers, and memorials must comply with cemetery by-laws regarding size, design, materials, installation, and placement. Some existing items on cemetery lots do not meet these requirements, and where the lot owner is deceased or cannot be contacted, these items may be removed by the cemetery operator. The cemetery operator will conduct an annual removal of prohibited items each spring and fall to ensure compliance, safety, and the dignified appearance of the grounds.

Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:
• Monuments, markers, or memorials without prior approval or permit issued by the Public Works Superintendent
• Items exceeding size limits or installed outside designated areas
• Back-to-back monuments without authorization
• Candle holders, vases, or statues not made of bronze, stainless steel, or fire-resistant plastic
• Photographs, ornaments, or personal items not attached to approved memorials
• Wooden crosses, fences, railings, borders, or cut-stone copings
• Trees, shrubs, hedges, or plantings not authorized
• Glass, ceramic items, or any items posing a hazard
• Flowers or decorations beyond permitted limits or placed outside designated areas
• Flat, slope, or raised flat memorials not conforming to dimensions, material, or installation requirements
• Columbarium niches with mementos of monetary value or items exceeding size limits
