The Township's Emergency Response Plan outlines the operations and procedures we will follow in the event of an emergency.

If the evacuation is anticipated, the public will be warned by the Police.
On hearing a warning, residents are requested to turn on radio’s or TV’s to local stations and listen for announcements and/or instructions.
Residents who do not have their own transportation will be asked to assemble at the NIPIGON COMMUNITY CENTER.
Residents who are physically unable to move to these locations are requested to phone the broadcasted numbers and place a white cloth into the door of the residence facing the street or road.
Pick-up will be arranged as soon as possible
Residents who have their own transportation are asked to await further instructions.
Residents relying on emergency public transportation and/or public reception centers for accommodation are reminded that pets are not permitted in either of these facilities.

Notes: Residents will be asked to register at the Registration Centre(s) in the reception community, so that inquiries by relatives and friends can be answered. An emergency Public Information Service will be established in the reception community. Arrangements will be made with the local stores and gasoline outlets remain open during an evacuation as long as conditions permit.
The Township of Nipigon provides eligible charities and not-for-profit organizations with Lottery Licenses. Licensing fees are 3% of the prize value.
Please apply for your licence at least three days before the event.
Lottery Licenses are not available for private functions or individuals who are fundraising for personal reasons.
Following your lottery event, you will be required to complete a report to be filed with the Township.

Failure to receive a tax bill will not invalidate penalty and interest charges.
You may receive additional or supplementary tax bills if there have been changes to your assessment (ex. new house, renovations, demolitions, tax class and tax qualifier changes, assessment appeals, errors and omissions, etc.).
Payments made other than in Canadian Funds will be applied against taxes owing at the exchange rate applicable on the day of receipt less a $5.00 service charge.
NSF or any returned cheques are subject to a processing fee of $25.00.
A late payment charge of 1.25% on the total owing will be added on the first day following the due date and on the first day of each month thereafter until paid. All subsequent payments are applied to interest charges first, then to outstanding taxes.

The Township of Nipigon collects taxes for all properties within its boundaries. However, the Total Tax Rate applicable in the Township of Nipigon is actually made up of three different Tax Rates, each raised for a different entity, being the Township of Nipigon, the Thunder Bay District, and the Boards of Education. These independently calculated Tax Rates combine to make up your Total Tax Rate. This Total Tax Rate is multiplied by your property's assessment to determine how much your annual taxes will be. Tax Rates are not usually determined until late spring because of the timing of the budgeting process of the three entities involved.

“Anyone wishing to walk their dog in and round the Nipigon marina park lands must do so with a leash or similar apparatus no longer than twelve (12) feet in length. Any dog that is found not connected to a person with a leash or similar apparatus on park lands as outlined above will be considered as a dog running at large.”

The Nipigon Historical Museum collects, protects, and displays artifacts representing a time period of before European contact to present day. The Nipigon Historical Museum displays a number of artifacts that will help you to understand the rich history of the Town of Nipigon and its surrounding area. A number of different displays showcase the history of Nipigon from the time of the fur trade to the development of the forest industry. Each display offers an impressive amount of information through literature and artifacts such as the tools that were used, the product that was made, or pictures of the people who were there at that time.
Not only is the Nipigon Historical Museum an educational experience, it is a great demonstration of the importance of recording our history and gives the residents of Nipigon an opportunity to understand the heritage and history of their community.
The Nipigon Historical Museum has something for everyone; with a knowledgeable staff to help with any questions or inquiries you may have.

AODA – Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.
Assistive Device - is a tool, technology or other mechanism that enables a person with a disability to do everyday tasks and activities.
Barrier – any policy, practice or procedure, or part of the built environment, that prevents someone with a disability from participating fully in any programs or services provided by the Corporation of the Township of Nipigon because of his/her disability.
Disability – defined by the AODA as “a disability can include: a) physical disability, infirmity, malformation, or disfigurement, b) mental impairment or developmental disability, c) learning disability, d) mental disorder, and e) an injury or disability for which government benefits are received.
Reasonable Efforts – the Customer Service Standard requires organizations to make reasonable efforts to meet the needs of people with disabilities. The Corporation of the Township of Nipigon defines reasonable efforts as providing the best possible service within the context of: available resources, balancing the needs of people with disabilities with others who may encounter barriers to access and with the community at large, the health and safety of the Corporation of the Township of Nipigon staff, the security of the Township staff and existing laws and contracts.

Staff and employees will also be available to assist all residents, including people with disabilities, in providing feedback, and feedback will be accepted in any format.
The Corporation of the Township of Nipigon will continue to meet the standards set by the Ontario Human Rights Code. Where a request for accommodation is made, the Township will strive to provide accommodation in a way that respects the dignity of the individual to the fullest. The Township recognizes that individuals with disabilities may require individualized accommodation and that each individual’s needs may be unique. Accommodation will be provided unless the Township experiences “undue hardship” as defined in the Ontario Human Rights Code.
The following directives address the requirements established by the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service, Ontario Regulation 429/07.
6.1 - PROVISION OF SERVICES
The Corporation of the Township of Nipigon will provide services in a manner that respects the dignity and independence of people with disabilities and provides them with an equal opportunity to learn about, use or benefit from any service, program or operation provided by the Township.
6.2 - INTEGRATE SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
The Corporation of the Township of Nipigon understands that equitable access sometimes requires different treatment including separate or specialized services. Such services will be offered in a way that respects the dignity and full participation of people with disabilities.
The Corporation of the Township of Nipigon will continue to welcome service animals that are needed to assist people with disabilities. Service animals are allowed on the parts of our premises that are open to the public. When we cannot easily identify that an animal is a service animal, our staff may ask a person to provide documentation (template, letter or form) from a regulated health professional that confirms the person needs the service animal for reasons relating to their disability.
The Corporation of the Township of Nipigon welcomes people with disabilities and accompanying support workers. If an admission fee is charged for any service or program offered by the Township, the admission fee will be waived for support people. Advanced notice will be given of any admission fees that support people must pay.
The Corporation of the Township of Nipigon will make reasonable effort to permit the use of assistive devices that enable people with disabilities to use the Township’s services and programs. The Township also recognizes that accessibility can be achieved and provided in different ways.
In cases where the assistive device presents a significant and unavoidable health or safety concern or may not be permitted for other reasons, other measures will be used to ensure the person with a disability can access our goods, services or facilities.
The Township will provide notice of service disruptions which include the reason for the disruption, the length of disruption, and a list of available alternatives to the service or program that is being disrupted, if available. In the event of an unplanned or emergency disruption, notice will be provided as soon as possible.
The Township will document all its policies, practices and procedures as required by the Customer Service Standard. A copy will be posted on their website at https://nipigon.net and members of the public will be notified of the availability of this documentation. The Township will provide this document in an accessible format or with communication support, on request. We will consult with the person making the request to determine the suitability of the format or communication support. We will provide the accessible format in a timely manner and, at no additional cost. and/or provide a copy to any person who requests one.
The Corporation of the Nipigon Township shall set up processes to address employee accommodation needs at all stages of their employment and develop a written process to document an employee's accommodation needs in an individual accommodation plan helping to ensure that all the necessary people are involved, the right steps are taken and the best possible solutions are considered and put in place.
The Corporation of the Nipigon Township shall incorporate accessibility criteria and features when procuring or acquiring goods, services or facilities, except where it is not practicable to do so.
