Every year on the last Saturday of September, the Hike for Health is held along the Nipigon River Recreation Trail in order to raise monies for local needs. New in 2019, a photography workshop and a taco & beer tasting were held the Friday before the hike as additional fundraisers.
At Hike For Health 2019, $6,600 was raised for local organizations. The funds were disbursed as follows:
$1,410.00 Nipigon District Memorial Hospital
$1,000 Edge Arts programs
$1,000 Land of Nipigon Waterway Development Association
$500 High School Bursary
$1,500 District Elementary Schools
$2,000 – Canadian Tire Jump Start
The 2020 Hike for Health has been re-imagined due to COVID-19. The theme for this year is “Choose Your Adventure”. Participants will register online or via mail, and enjoy a self guided hike on the trail of their choice September 18-20 (the third weekend of the month). Registration and details will be posted on the event website and facebook page by July 1st.
