Bioblitz

The 2nd Annual Bioblitz

June 2, 2012  11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Nipigon Marina & Nipigon River Recreation Trail

The BioBlitz is designed to highlight the biological diversity of a specific natural area, and in so doing develop a deeper understanding of the environment. BioBlitz is unique in that it uses both the hands-on creative arts and science to better connect young people to nature.

Come and hike the beautiful one kilometre trail at the Nipigon Marina to learn more about our natural neighbours that call this place home. Everyone is encouraged to come and have fun in this action packed day. You will learn about the different species of plants, animals and insects that are native to our area. For young or inexperienced birders come and learn about our feathered friends; what they look like and the calls they make. Take the time to find and identify the tracks of our furry friends and create your own fish print all-while enjoying the acclaimed singer/songwriter folk music of Rodney Brown. This year we are complimenting the day with a family tree plant. Each participating family will plant a tree identified with their family name.

Your hosts for the Father’s Day Nature Walk and Bio Blitz are the Ministry of Natural Resources, Brass Bell Family Resource Center, Thunder Bay District Health Unit, Township of Nipigon and Parks Canada. This dedicated and exciting group of volunteers have organized an opportunity to have family photos taken, a nutritious lunch and many fun activities free of charge.

Pre-registration is appreciated, so that we can ensure there are enough materials and food for all.
