A Visit from the Prime Minister!

Thursday, October 25, 2007 was an historical event day for Nipigon.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper came to town to announce the creation of a national marine conservation area along the northern coast of Lake Superior.

Excitement ran high as word spread that the Prime Minister was indeed coming to Nipigon.  Upon arrival at the Nipigon Community Centre the Prime Minister was greeted by students, lining the parking lot, waving banners and cheering.  Mr. Harper took a few minutes from his busy schedule to speak with the students and even sign a few autographs!

After the announcement the group visited the Nipigon Marina, where more citizens anxiously waited to greet Prime Minister Harper and were not disappointed, as again he took time to speak with people and pose for photographs.

If you'd like more information on the Marine Conservation Area plans you can read about it at www.parkscanada.ca
